Hello
I'm trying to gain insight into this system created by John Dee and Edward Kelly. I've heard that beginners should avoid performing Enochian workings, while other sources that I read online said that beginners may approach it. What is everyone's experience with this system? What would your practical advice be?
Best,
Ken

Re: Regarding Enochian Magic
Sun, March 4, 2007 - 7:12 PMken, i never got any warnings about Enochian Magic. just started doing it. would learn later in the years that my first experiments in it were wrong to say the least. mispronounced a lot of words, left out a few callings etc etc. but i never, never had a bad experience in it a few surprises yes, but of the learning kind, mistakes that teach not destroy or cause ill effects. because i never approached it nor used it for ill, but for learning of the universe, angelic knowledge and transformation of self to Self. i have heard about some bad experiences but they were always associated with the the users intent. mines was for learning, until after a fashion, yes, i was able to call upon the demons of the system as well. only because i learned from dealing with the Enochian entitites that using same helps with their evolution within the Great Work. again, intent made the difference. ask anyone at Tahuti Lodge in NYC of Sor. TJ's enochian magic and results, good feedback i assure you. so...go for it, just make sure you understand your own intentions and expect the results to be within that vein.

Re: Regarding Enochian Magic
Sun, March 4, 2007 - 7:45 PMWe are all beginners at some point. Dive in and learn from your mistakes. I do find Enochian Magick to be the most fulfilling work I have ever done. -

Re: Regarding Enochian Magic
Mon, March 5, 2007 - 2:14 AMI did because I found the system poetic and interesting.
I do not see any danger to it if you stick to the ealier beginner exercises.
I did the bounce the sound around the earth right away with several others and felt the sound bouncing back. These are limbering exercises.
It was great.
Maybe Aleister Crowleigh gave it a bad reputation. The man was a joker with his own peculiar sense of humour. Just stay away from the more advanced exercises at first.
I find angelic writing fascinating and think it has an earlier origin than Dee's.

Re: Regarding Enochian Magic
Fri, September 21, 2007 - 7:09 PMIt is humbly that I recommend that you read this concise description of the Enochian system by revered occultist Donald Tyson. He may in some ways put into perspective for you this art. Please refer to www.donaldtyson.com/enochian.html and do not neglect to explore his rather informative website thoroughly.
One point that he makes that I feel is of the utmost importance is that the Golden Dawn interpretation of John Dee's communications is a truncation of his work with psychic Kelley. And is purported to be slightly less effective. So it may be advisable to go to the source. -

Re: Regarding Enochian Magic
Fri, September 21, 2007 - 7:13 PMbe advised tho that a lot of people take issue with Tyson's views.
personally I kinda like his apocalyptic visions in particular.
I think the Angels are up to something, I just dunno what.

Re: Regarding Enochian Magic
Sat, September 22, 2007 - 2:33 PMWhenever one undertakes any large, transforming project such as a magickal system, one is suggested to have a base from which to work. This base can be simple practices such as visualization, meditation, chanting, handling basic tools, a base level of knowledge about the system, etc.
Enochian is pretty complex, in my opinion. I love it. :-) I'm just finally dipping my toes into its ocean, learning bits here and there, reading, and trying to wrap my mind around its paradigm. I feel I have enough of a base in most of the above techniques to start on a specific model. Once I feel comfortable with the model, I'll try some simple rituals. Then I'll go from there.
I'm impatient; I often want to just jump into whatever I find interesting. Sometimes, that's OK. But in a complicated system like Enochian, or learning a foreign language, or taking yoga, or getting a mathematics degree, or any number of things, one has to start "at the bottom", as it were, and grow within the system.
So, where am I going with this ramble? If you feel you have enough of a base from which to start exploring Enochian, do so. If not, take some yoga classes, take some meditation classes, do visualization exercises, read about Enochian, etc. Once you feel ready (only you know this; no one else can tell you "you're ready"), start simple, and build. Before you know it, you've delved deeply into the system. And, as is well-known about Enochian, you will see results galore, and you will realize that it is possible that the Enochian system in nigh inexhaustible.
Tell us how things go. :-)
